Dear Edwards-Knox Families,
Spring is here, and with it comes an exciting opportunity to celebrate all that our students have learned and accomplished! The annual New York State assessments in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science for students in grades 3 through 8 are just around the corner, and we are thrilled for our students to showcase their hard work and growth.
These assessments provide students with a chance to demonstrate their learning and reflect on their progress. They also help us, as educators, continue to support and enhance their academic journey. We want our students to approach these assessments with confidence, enthusiasm, and a mindset focused on doing their personal best.
The assessments will be administered on computers according to the following schedule:
To help students feel prepared and confident, we encourage families to:
Ensure a good night’s sleep before test day
Provide a healthy breakfast at home or take advantage of breakfast at school
Arrive at school on time, ready to do their best
Offer words of encouragement and remind them that their hard work is something to be proud of!
We are so proud of our students and all they have accomplished this year. These assessments are a wonderful way to recognize their learning and progress. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child’s building principal or contact my office at 315-562-8130.
Thank you for your support, and let’s cheer on our students as they showcase their success!
Sincerely,
Erin E. Woods
Superintendent
The Edwards-Knox Board of Education approved two changes to the school district’s leadership team at its February 11th meeting, involving both a familiar face and a new addition to the team.
Amy Sykes, current Edwards-Knox 7-12 Principal, will take on the role of Director of Student Supports and Special Education. For 28 years, Sykes has served the students of Edwards-Knox, most recently as their 7-12 Principal for the past 12 years.
"Amy's passion for student success is evident in everything she does," said Superintendent Erin E. Woods. "This new role will allow her to focus even more directly on meeting their individual needs."
Amanda Lyons-Gonyea will become the district’s new 7-12 Principal. Lyons-Gonyea comes to Edwards-Knox from Canton Central School District, where she currently teaches high school math.
“I am excited to welcome Amanda to E-K,” said Woods. "Her experience working with students in the North Country will be a tremendous asset, and she's eager to become part of our Cougar community."
These changes come after a thorough review of applicants and interviews involving district leadership, faculty and staff, and students.
The appointments will take effect on Monday, April 14, 2025, with a transition period to ensure a smooth handover.
